Life on Earth
God tells the story of the world
In his own way
In his own time
And no one gets to say that it should be
Like this or like that. No, let God be true
And every man a liar, or let God's
Lies be the truth that lies beneath
Every word that men may say to each other.
Whatever the case may be, God draws
Us all to an end of things because
God, unending, desires more than
Anything else, an end, an end to end
All things. This is the Apocalypse. This
is God's way of ending it all, a suicide
Of heavenly proportions, a hell
That burns itself into oblivion
And then opens into a new world.
A black hole that turns the universe
Inside out, and every ending begins
Again, over and over until no one knows
What an ending is or even a beginning
Only this conscious cry of pain we call
God.
