There are three written assignments that students must complete in this course: the Creation Myth project, the Novel Analysis, and the Final Exam essay. These assignments require students to apply materials learned in this course. Please review the Academic Integrity policy in the syllabus and the Academic Affairs Disciplinary Policy in the Student Handbook.
Detailed instructions for each assignment are given in the Dropbox. Assignments in this course are NOT proctored.
Purpose
The papers assigned in this course are designed to evaluate students' ability to understand, interpret, evaluate, and apply key concepts and ideas learned in this course (Students who are diligent in their reading and their participation in the discussions will develop these skills in preparation for the assignments).
Success Tips
- Get started as soon as the assignment is assigned.
- For the Creation Project, this means reading Ch. 2 in Mythology: Reading Myth by the River and studying carefully the Weigle types.
- For the Novel Analysis, this means getting a novel approved and, if at all possible, having it read by mid-semester, and if not by mid-semester, very shortly after.
- For the Final Exam, this means carrying a note card around to write down ideas as they occur to you.
- Do all reading and research before writing (other than notes)
- Be active in discussions, which are designed to help students with assignments.
- Urgent: Do not do any research or use any materials outside of course materials (Using outside materials will result in a violation of Academic Integrity--with disastrous results).
- If in doubt or if in need of help, contact the instructor well in advance.
- Meet all minimum requirements for the assignments. Assignments missing parts or less than required lengths do not receive passing grades.
- Trust your instincts, but double check your work.
- Do all of your own work.
- Make sure you understand what you are being asked to do. If you have any questions, ask the instructor.
- Submit fully completed work at least three hours prior to the final deadline to earn any available Work Ethic extra credit (separate grade).
Important: All due dates are Chattanooga local time.
