In the Star Trek: Next Generation episode titled "Darmok," the captain of an alien vessel, in an attempt to communicate with the crew of the Enterprise, transports himself and Captain Picard to the surface of a planet where they must work together to defeat a monster. Although the alien captain dies, he is successful in communicating with Picard, who tells the alien a Terran tale from The Epic of Gilgamesh, which is similar to their own plight.
