Chinese classic Journey to the West Photograph by Rolf Müller on April 17, 2005. Source: Wikipedia Photograph of painting depicting a scene from the Chinese classic Journey to the West. The painting shows the four heros of the story, left to right: Sun Wukong, Xuanzang, Zhu Wuneng, and Sha Wujing. The painting is a decoration on the Long Corridor in the Summer Palace in Beijing, China. The painting is a semicircular scene. The corners of the painting are decoraded with red roses. The border of the scene is a ribbon, much like a candy ribbon, in shades of pink and brown. The scene shows two trees on the left, mountains in the background. The first figure, Sun Wukong, the Monkey King, is dancing, his right leg raised and bent at the knee, his weight on his left two, his right arm raised over his head, and his left arm bent at the elbow. He wears a yellow outfit with fringes sleeves and collar and a skull cap. The next figure is Xuanzang, a Chinese Buddhist monk. He is dressed in a flowing robe and sits astride a white horse. Across his left shoulder sits an ornamental lance, and he wears a crown on his head. His right hand is extended toward Sun Wukong. Sitting on the horse behind Xuanzang is Zhu Wuneng, half man, half pig. He carries a rake over his shoulder, a cap on his head, and wears a loose robe. He is turned facing Sha Wujing. Sha Wujing is a bullish man with black hair and a black beard and mustache. He wears a blue robe tied at the waist and a sash over his shoulder. He is much more swarthy in complexion than Xuanzang, who looks typically Chinese.
