Federico Barocci, Aeneas' Flight from Troy, 1598. Galleria Borghese, Rome. Wikipedia The scene is what appears to be a classical styled building with Ionic columns and a stairway leading upwards on the left. The focal point of the painting is the family of Aneas, fleeing for their lives. In the left foreground is scattered armor and shields, abandoned in their flight to safety. The two central figures are of Aeneas and his wife. Aeneas wears a battle helm. He is carrying his aged father. Aeneas arms support the old man's hips while the old man leans over Aeneas' shoulder, one hand clinging to a crown. The old man is only wearing a tunic wrapped around his waist. To Aeneas' left is the figure of a curly headed boy, one hand to his ear, his other hand grasping his father's leg. To Aeneas' righ is his wife. She is bent over, her weight on her right leg which is bare to the knee extending from her full gown. In her right arm, she clutches an infant, holding its head to her chin. The woman has long flowing light brown hair tied behind her head. The prominent colors in the paiting are the red gown and red tunic worn by the wife and young boy and the off-yellow of the old man's tunic.
