Islamic Noah: This detail from a 16th century Mogul miniature gives a Moslem interpretation of Noah and the Flood. 16th century, Noah and the Flood (detail), Mogul, miniature. Available from Wikipedia. The lower deck of the boat is filled with animals, including lions, cheetahs, deer, sheep, wolves, a pigeon, an owl, a peacock, and a parrot. The birds are perched on the left side of the ship. Two turbaned men are leaning over the ship to pull another person out of the waters. A cat calmly sits aloof from the rest of the passengers on the ark and seems unconcerned about the activity around her, looking out over the water. On the upper deck of the ship, a turbaned man works a block and tackle. A man naked except for a loin cloth and turban holds a rope from the block and tackle while standing on a ladder to the upper deck. Above him, another man similarly attired, sits on the top step of the ladder holding ropes. On the upper deck are two turbaned men kneeling facing each other. The one on the left is kneeling, holding a book in his left hand, his right hand extended palm up. The man on the right kneels, hands tucked inside the opposite sleeve as he listens to the first man. This second man has more ornate dress, a red shawl over his shoulders and a collar around his his neck with a gold tassel hanging from it. Presumably, this is Noah.
