Deathmask of Agamemnon, Museum of Troy. Photo by De'Lara Stephens, 2006 Discoverd by Heinrich Schliemann, this is a gold funeral mask. There is a wide hammered gold beard around the side of the face. The ears are stylized and stick out on either side of the face. The figure has a mustache, curled at the ends, a thin aquiline nose, and heavy eyebrows over almond shaped eyes. The face has a smooth forehead. Schliemann believed he had discovered the body of Agamemnon, and the mask is still referred to as the deathmask of Agammenon even though contemporary scholars think it belongs to a king who predated Agamemnon.
