The Babylonian Deluge, from the Painting by E. Wallcousins in Myths of Babylonia and Assyria by Donald A. Mackenzie, Project Gutenberg Literary Archive Foundation This black and white drawing depicts the Babylonian Flood. The scene shows a stormy ocean with towering waves. The sky is black with storm clouds. At the center of the drawing is a boat, tossed by the waves. Its prow is titled up. The figurehead on the prow shows a bearded man with a pointed cap. On either side of the figurehead are sculptures of lions heads, the main spread out. Below these are a line of portholes for the lowest level of the boat. Behind the prow is a short deck and then a three story superstructure that extends to the stern. Atop the prow is a censer with burning oil. At the front of the superstructure are two more burning censers. There are three levels below the superstructure, giving six levels to the boat in all, all levels lined with portholes. The waterline comes a few feet below the lowest deck.
