The image shows a gibbous earth, the lower left corner in shadow.  The background shows the darness of space unrelieved by stars.  Because of the large amount of reflected light from the earth, starlight is too weak to appear in the photograph.  Details of continents cannot be made out.  The earth appears as a large blue and white marble, clouds covering much of the image.
