Figure V.3. The winged Ishtar above the rising sun god, the river god, and other deities, bas relief Source: Project Gutenberg, Myths of Babylonia and Assyria by Donald A. Mackenzie The picture is in black and white. Along the lower edge is a representation of a stone road. On the far left, a lion faces right, roaring. Above him is a rectangle with four hierglyphs composed of wavy lines, rectangles, lines, and triangles. Next is a bearded deity wearing a pointed cap and holding a bow. To his right stands Ishtar on a raised platform, facing forward, her wings extended, and lines extending back from her wings, presumeably to represent the wind. On her right side is a figure with four curving branches. To her left sits a god holding a rod. To her left stands another god, with a large bird holding a fish. More fish swim in the stream. The god is stepping up on the platform where Ishtar stands. To his left, at the far right of the bas relief, is another goddess, her face veiled.
